Lately

3 USA(J)MO problems solved

Listening to:

  • Taylor Swift
  • Union J
  • Emblem3
  • Sara Bareilles
  • Lorde
  • Bridgit Mendler
  • 78violet
  • Lights (the singer....)
Word count: 28,964

Physics: None :P

Nutella mono today. OMG I LOVE NUTELLA. YUM YUM YUM. It's really fun to eat it by the spoonful.

Okay. Let's Talk.

Things I am doing now that are probably certified crazy:

  • Going for MOP. And IMO. And yeah... that's like the top 30ish kids in the country.
  • Writing a novel... well that's happening. 28000 words.
  • Going for physics. Not 100% my idea.

Monos I've done so far

  1. Greek yogurt with dried jujube berries
  2. apples
  3. pears
  4. bananas (today)

I'm sick of bananas. 9 total today. Should have had 7.

2012 AMC12A score of 117. Could have been better.

Not Good Enough

I didn't get into this math research program that I really wanted to get into. When I first found out, I started crying. Okay, maybe not that much, but still, I did.

Why didn't I get in? Am I too young? Too not smart enough? (Bad grammar, sorry!)

I got the highest score in the class on my history test. But I'd much rather have gotten into the program.

So here's to feeling not good enough.

What I Spend My Time On

Physics is a vortex of uncontrollable fear and confusion. I'm saying this as a brand new physicist taking an AP course on physics with calculus. I'm saying this as a girl who hasn't fully learned how to do derivatives and who can't do integration for her life. I'm saying this as a high school student with a partially existent social life.

As a math girl, this should be easy. EASY? I can't get any of these problems correct. I put in 2 hours a day. I try so hard to do all these problems (well kind of). I'm putting my heart and my soul into this single class, and I don't know if it's paying off.

Am I getting projectile motion and all the other junk that I'm learning? Yes, after I put in seemingly infinite time each night.

I can't ever seem to get the correct answer though. I'm just blindly plugging in formulas and trying to round with significant digits. Sounds familiar, anyone?
Don't even get me started on vectors. I suck so badly at vectors; it's absolutely ridiculous. I can't separate the x and y components at all.

Physics is math for the scientist with brains twice the size of mine.

Moral of the story: Don't do physics if you can avoid.

All in all, physics isn't too bad. It's just a new perspective.

Hey, I do Math

No, I'm not your average math lover.

I'm your trying to be Olympiad level math girl here.

Confused? Good.

Let me explain. Olympiad level problems are crazy hard. As in circumcenters, isogonal angles, homothety, inversion and stuff like that for the geometry. Barycentric coordinates and trig-bashing guys and girls! Confused yet? Sorry. Even I can't do it.

I never could. And I'm trying to learn it.

Now let's move on to combinatorics.

Lots of graph theory and stuff I don't know.

As for algebra? I'm not too sure.

For number theory, there's a TON of Chinese Remainder Theorem, Wilson's Theorem and so on.

Peeps, y'all want to help? I'd appreciate it.

Just let me borrow some of your brains haha.

A July Event

Strategy stealing arguments are clever, yet they are also very accessible as well.

THIS IS FOR THOSE XKCD FANS (maybe) WHO LIVE (loving is so last year) MATH AND GAME STRATEGY ARGUMENTS.

I did not digress that much.

Yay me.

The monster hasn't been calmed yet (binging).

But I'm getting better.
