There You'll Find Me by Jenny B. Jones

There's always a book that you manage to never forget. There's always a book that stays in your soul forever. There's always a book that you remember at the oddest times. There's always a book that you just think about and love. There You'll Find Me is one of those books. Which means... 5 out of 5 Irish stars!

There You'll Find Me by Jenny B. Jones
5 out of 5 stars
Published 10.4.11
Summary from Goodreads: In a small cottage house in rural Ireland, Finley discovers she can no longer outrun the past.

When Finley travels to Ireland as a foreign exchange student, she hopes to create a new identity and get some answers from the God who took her brother away and seems to have left her high and dry.

But from the moment she boards the plane and sits by Beckett Rush, teen star of the hottest vampire flicks, nothing goes according to Finley's plan.

When she gets too close to Beckett, a classmate goes on a mission to make sure Finley packs her bags, departs Ireland-and leaves Beckett alone.

Finley feels the pressure all around. As things start to fall apart, she begins to rely on a not-so-healthy method of taking control of her life.

Finley tries to balance it all-disasters on the set of Beckett's new movie, the demands of school, and her growing romance with one actor who is not what he seems. Yet Finley is also not who she portrays to Beckett and her friends.

For the first time in her life, Finley must get honest with herself to get right with God.

What they didn't mention in this summary is how awesome Finley is. She's used to fame. She's not fazed by sitting next to a really good-looking celebrity, aka Beckett Rush. I love her snarkiness, her attitude, her Finleyness. I like how she tries to take control of her life and keep it constant. It might not always be the best trait, but I like it anyways. I like how hardworking she was and her aim to be perfect. I loved her. Sidenote: Maybe I liked Finley because she's kind of like me, but still, Finley is an awesome character that you have to bottle up and keep- forever!

And then there was Beckett. Oh, wow, I absolutely love Beckett! Swoon, swoon, swoon. He's good-looking, hot, and did I mention good-looking? Even so, I liked how he wasn't what people thought he was. He was actually a very nice, VERY CHARMING, very cool guy. He really liked Finley and definitely treated her well. He had some problems, but in the end he fixed them. I liked how he and Finley fixed them... together. Back to Beckett. I. Absolutely. Loved. Him. Need I say more?

I liked how the plot was centered around healing and finding Him. It was a pretty believable plot with a lot of Beckett. Which I ate up. Anyways, it was normal. There weren't too many surprises, but just the right amount. It was really about a girl's journey to find God, along with romance (squeal!), music, and a grouchy mean old lady who you learn to like. I really liked this plot. It was an accurate description about finding God and just, well, being Finley. But of course I wouldn't know... would I? You'll never know...

Oh, and did I mention the writing style? I absolutely loved it. It was so good! This style has you flipping through the pages from the beginning, staying up light for just another page and another, and squealing like a pig about just how awesome the book was. Yup, I doing it now. It just has you reading and reading and reading. I loved this awesome first-person style! Absolutely amazing. Just that much. Loved. It.

There's nothing else to say. I could rant about it, but you can already tell how much I love this book. I love it to pieces. Well anyways, just read this book, fall in love, and lust for Beckett. Well, you don't have to lust for him, but you know, it would be better if you did. He's just that awesome!

Peter and the Starcatchers by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson

Let me begin by saying you could think of this book as a child's book. You could think of it as a book for 5 year olds, for the little ones asking for a fairytale. You could think of it as a book for kids, BUT IT'S NOT. There's more to this book than just Peter Pan. Think of it as a prequel, a very good, adventurous one. 4 out of 5 stars.

Peter and the Starcatchers by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson
Out, out and away!
4 out of 5 stars
Goodreads summary: Don’t even think of starting this book unless you’re sitting in a comfortable chair and have lots of time. A fast-paced, impossible-to-put-down adventure awaits as the young orphan Peter and his mates are dispatched to an island ruled by the evil King Zarboff. They set sail aboard the Never Land, a ship carrying a precious and mysterious trunk in its cargo hold, and the journey quickly becomes fraught with excitement and danger. Discover richly developed characters in the sweet but sophisticated Molly, the scary but familiar Black Stache, and the fearless Peter. Treacherous battles with pirates, foreboding thunderstorms at sea, and evocative writing immerses the reader in a story that slowly and finally reveals the secrets and mysteries of the beloved Peter Pan.

I absolutely love this plot. It screams, "Adventure! Adventure is here!" And I love it. There's action all the time. In other words, not one boring moment. Everything happened at once, and you didn't run out of things. More kept on coming, making their way over. More action, more twists, more surprises, more suspense, more everything. The world was falling apart and so on. In other words, it's pure bliss! This plot is possibly the best plot in the world, but you have to READ it to believe it.

I liked the writing of Peter and the Starcatchers. It was a fast-paced third person, faintly reminiscent of Eragon and a lot like Cassandra Clare's writing. It wasn't overdone or overflowery. Really nice, not too many frills. It was almost like the Near Witch without the flowers and in third person. All these comparisons are telling you that it is written remarkably and that you MUST READ IT NOW! Like that's not a hint...

Then there were the villians. There's more than one bad guy in this story. You have Stache, named after his curling mustache. You have Little Richard and his whip. You have some other villians like Mr. Grin, who happens to be an animal with an evil smile. Ish. I loved these villians, especially Stache. He was so complex, so cunning and so vicious. What an awesome pirate and what an awesome evil dude! I wish I created him.

Since this was kind of a prequel, some things in Peter Pan make sense. For example, why Peter never ages. Tinkerbell gets explained. Along with Captain Hook's infamous hook. And of course, the crocodile. I love how things fall into place and everything makes sense. It is such an awesome prequel that's also 451 pages long.

451 pages. It seems long. It isn't. I thought such a thick book would take me forever to read. It didn't. I finished it in a day. Well, around a day, at least. By the time you finish this book, you'll be glad that it's such a long book. I'm glad it was that long. I'm glad that it was over 400 pages. Why? Because there was more for me to read!

I absolutely love this prequel of Peter Pan! Put it on the top of your to-read list now!

Waiting on Wednesday #3

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine. Today's WoW book is Out of Sight, Out of Time by Ally Carter!

Out of Sight, Out of Time by Ally Carter
Publishing 3.20.2012
Summary from Goodreads: The last thing Cammie Morgan remembers is leaving the Gallagher Academy to protect her friends and family from the Circle of Cavan--an ancient terrorist organization that has been hunting her for over a year. But when Cammie wakes up in an alpine convent and discovers months have passed, she must face the fact that her memory is now a black hole. The only traces left of Cammie’s summer vacation are the bruises on her body and the dirt under her nails, and all she wants is to go home.

Once she returns to school, however, Cammie realizes that even the Gallagher Academy now holds more questions than answers. Cammie, her friends, and mysterious spy-guy Zach must face their most difficult challenge yet as they travel to the other side of the world, hoping to piece together the clues that Cammie left behind. It’s a race against time. The Circle is hot on their trail and willing stop at nothing to prevent Cammie from remembering what she did last summer.

Doesn't that seem good? It had better! I absolutely love Ally Carter's books! They're so good. I remember first starting with Gallagher Girl #3. I should've started with number 1. Oh well, I don't care! They were still awesome books! Love Ally Carter, her books, and a certain boy named Zach Goode.

Blood Red Road by Moira Young

I have to say, the book is a bloody awesome book (pun may or may not be intended). By bloody, I mean it's just a bloody good book AND that there's a lot of blood. Still, I had one problem that kinda brings it down a little. Overall a 4.75 out of 5 stars.

Blood Red Road by Moira Young
4.75 out of 5 stars
Out and out
Summary from Goodreads: Saba has spent her whole life in Silverlake, a dried-up wasteland ravaged by constant sandstorms. The Wrecker civilization has long been destroyed, leaving only landfills for Saba and her family to scavenge from. That's fine by her, as long as her beloved twin brother Lugh is around. But when a monster sandstorm arrives, along with four cloaked horsemen, Saba's world is shattered. Lugh is captured, and Saba embarks on an epic quest to get him back.
Suddenly thrown into the lawless, ugly reality of the world outside of desolate Silverlake, Saba is lost without Lugh to guide her. So perhaps the most surprising thing of all is what Saba learns about herself: she's a fierce fighter, an unbeatable survivor, and a cunning opponent. And she has the power to take down a corrupt society from the inside. Teamed up with a handsome daredevil named Jack and a gang of girl revolutionaries called the Free Hawks, Saba stages a showdown that will change the course of her own civilization.

Blood Red Road has a searing pace, a poetically minimal writing style, violent action, and an epic love story. Moira Young is one of the most promising and startling new voices in teen fiction.

Let me first say this: I LOVE Saba. She's so warrior-like. Some people would call that jaded and a murderer, but still, she's such a warrior. She stubborn! I love my stubborn girls! Not only that, but she speaks her mind. Sometimes that kind of hurts her, but that's what I absolutely love about her. She's bold, blunt and just plain cool! My. Favorite. Protagonist. Ever!!! I absolutely love her! If you need some references, she's like Rose from the Vampire Academy or Sophie from Hex Hall. Snarky. Sarcastic. Stubborn. Super. In other words, Saba! Yeah, I could rant and rant about how much I love her, but I think I should stop.

Then there's Jack. He's pretty... well... hot. That's not a word I use much. But notice, he's not that hot. There's a difference between hot and Hot. And Jack, I'm sorry but you're just hot. But hey, you look good, so all is well! Brown hair and silver eyes that shimmer in the moonlight. Yup, that's called good-looking. Love it.

And it wasn't an insta-love! I hate insta-loves. They're kinda cheesy. So I was glad this was more, well, regular. It was slower and more believable. In fact, they started out hating each other! I absolutely love their romance! I love how they kinda hated each other but still couldn't stop thinking about eachother! Yeah, that's enough each others'. Next topic, here I come.

Did I mention there's action? Like a ton of it? No? Well now I did. It's absolutely amazing how much action there is. I love it! I dig it! Tons of fighting, shooting, and everything. Then there's this whole thing with the hellwurms. You read about them later, and they are LEGENDARY. I absolutely loved that part. Such a part that needs to be read.

I like the plot. It shows the progression of Saba, how she grows to love not only Jack, but her sister. It shows how much of a good person she is. And fine, what a good warrior/fighter too. Yeah, this was a nice plot. You need to read it to find out just how many surprises there were with the Pinches, the King, the Tonton and everything else. You absolutely need to read this book!

Just one thing: this book has terrible grammar. And it's intentional. Now, I'm not a sucker for grammar, but Blood Red Road went overboard with the bad grammar. There's only so many ain'ts and cain'ts and I says and other things. And the dialogue's grammar was really hard to get. You'll see what I mean when you READ the book. But you get used to it. So all's good.

What are you waiting for? Just read the bloody book!

Deep Down Popular by Phoebe Stone

A friend I know suggested this book to me. So of course I had to read it! But now I'm not so sure if that was the best choice... cause I'm kind of regretting it. Just kind of. Why? Because it's 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Deep Down Popular by Phoebe Stone
3.5 out of 5 stars
It's out
Summary from Goodreads: 6th-grader Jessie Lou is deeply, madly, passionately in love with Conrad Parker Smith. Too bad she's a tomboy with only one on-again, off-again friend, and hair so short you can't spit on it. Too bad he's the most popular boy in their small-town school.

But then Conrad hurts his leg and suddenly can't keep up with his old pursuits anymore. Jessie Lou and Conrad start spending a lot more time together, but she can't help wonder -- is she just a substitute friend? And will Conrad forget her when his leg brace comes off and he's king of the school once again?

Notice one thing first: Jessie Lou is in 6th grade! And she's not just crushing on a boy! She's in love! Full, deep resonating love! I don't know if it's just me, but that's kind of young to truly be in love. It seems off somehow.
Then there's Conrad. He's in 6th grade too. Why aren't you two in high school? Why not? Please just grow up 3 more years! That's all I'm asking here.

I really have a problem with Conrad. I think he's so not crush-worthy. This whole book about a girl trying to get a boy turned out with the boy being boring. He has no personality, no spark, no mind. If I didn't know better, I'd think that there was no Conrad. Or that there was no Prince Charming. I just don't get why Jessie Lou liked him. Did she like him for his looks? Why does she like him? Also, I noticed that Jessie never mentions why she likes, I mean loves, him so much. She just does.
Jessie Lou was actually okay. I didn't mind her. She was a tomboy- which I like! that wrote poems- which I love! I liked how deeply she loved, even if she was a sixth grader. She had something about her that just connected. She's pretty relatable too, with or without this whole love thing. You just click with her, and she just clicks with you. Also there's this whole not average thing that floats around her too.

The plot was boring. Er. Than most plots. But hey, it's love. You don't need plots in love. Love can conquer all! BUT there were side plots, some of which involve stopping the building of a mall, a beauty pageant, and some other stuff not pickle related. Err. I mean, not love related. Anyways, it's a nice Southern plot. More relaxed, less intense. Not all in your face. In other words, not for me. But still!

It's still a good book for everyone!

Every Other Day by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

Well, if anything, this book was interesting. Totally unique, for sure. And different. I have to appreciate that at least Jennifer tried to tackle such a new field. But still, it could have been better. So 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Every Other Day by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Releasing 12/27/11
Recieved from Netgalley
3.5 out of 5 stars
Summary from Goodreads: Every other day, Kali D'Angelo is a normal sixteen-year-old girl. She goes to public high school. She attends pep rallies. She's human.

And then every day in between . . .She's something else entirely.

Though she still looks like herself, every twenty-four hours predatory instincts take over and Kali becomes a feared demon-hunter with the undeniable urge to hunt, trap, and kill zombies, hellhounds, and other supernatural creatures. Kali has no idea why she is the way she is, but she gives in to instinct anyway. Even though the government considers it environmental terrorism.

When Kali notices a mark on the lower back of a popular girl at school, she knows instantly that the girl is marked for death by one of these creatures. Kali has twenty-four hours to save her and, unfortunately, she'll have to do it as a human. With the help of a few new friends, Kali takes a risk that her human body might not survive. . .and learns the secrets of her mysterious condition in the process.

I've never read anything by Jennifer Lynn Barnes, so I didn't know what to expect. But I wasn't exactly expecting an elegant first-person voice. I didn't like how flowery it seemed, but if she had toned it down just a little, it would have been okay. I usually like the half flowery style, but this was way too much. At one point I literally had to push myself just the get through the writing.

The plot was pretty awesome, though it was kind of hard to notice through the flowery writing. I actually liked it! It had a lot of twists and turns. It had me guessing what would happen. And it had me actually gasping in some parts... for real! I liked this plot a lot; it was really fast-paced and pretty wicked. If anything, the so-called romance wasn't overdone! It might've been an insta-love, but it wasn't obvious. It was slower than other romances, which was a really nice relief. I hate insta-loves, so that made Every Other Day more appealing.

The characters weren't exactly what you'd call relatable, but I suppose Kali was slightly relatable. She was confused half the time, which I totally understand, and annoying the other half, which annoyed me. She's definitely not my favorite protagonist, but definitely not the worst. Although she's close to it...
Then there was Skylar. She was actually kind of awesome. I actually liked her a lot. She reeked of amazingness and just plain cool. I loved what she said to Kali when Kali first met her! It was so hilarious and funny! She has what Kali should've had: spunk.
And Bethany: I'm kind of undecided. She was just there for me. You might have a different opinion, but that's how I feel. I guess she's just okay, but I have no idea.

So overall, I guess I would recommend it, but I would be clenching my teeth and plastering a fake smile while doing it. It takes you a long time to like it, but when you do, you'll be flipping through the pages. I probably won't be reading the sequel, but all things can change through time...

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

This book is the type of book that gets raving reviews, lots of good publicity and all that good stuff, but you still don't read. It was sitting on my to-read list for at least two months, but I only started reading it a few days ago. And it was awesome! Since the series is already out, you can just read without having to wait!
5 out of 5 vampy stars!

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
5 out of 5 stars
It's out
Summary from Goodreads: St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger. . . .
Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.

Gah! Now, I usually scoff at vampires... but you absolutely cannot with this book. They may be vampires, but with a twist. Not only that, but they actually have different types of vampires. Yeah... thanks to the Vampire Academy I'm starting to obsess over vampires...

I absolutely love Rose! She is the awesomest protagonist ever! She's snarky, sarcastic and strong. She's not afraid to speak her mind and defend herself, even though that sometimes causes problems. She talks back! She's one of those girls you'd be afraid of, no matter how strong you yourself are. And I like how she narrating! You see her and Lissa throughout the story, but usually Rose. What else do I have to say?

Then there's Dimitri. Well, I guess I have to say, he's quiet and calculating but not evil. I like his description with the ponytail and everything, but he's not my favorite. I'm more of a Christian girl! (the guy... in the book...) Anyways, I guess I'm a little more than okay with him. I see why Rose likes him, but I still don't like him that much. I mean, as much.

Christian! I love you Christian! You look good! Seriously, I love black hair and blue eyes! I love you! I guess you're the charming bad boy in the series, very comparable to Will Herondale, but not quite. I love you a lot! I had better stop this speech or else Lissa will get very, very mad. And I don't know if I can handle that...

This plot was pretty awesome. I didn't expect him (it's not Christian, is it) to be the so-called enemy. Or his accomplice. It was a pretty awesome plot, and I am going over it like crazy. I absolutely loved this plot! It made twists when you least expected it and turns where there was supposed to be a dead end. Basically, this plot is so rant-worthy and epic that you absolutely must read the book to understand!

And I absolutely love the ending. It was a half cliffhanger that was pretty awesome and memorable. It ends yet it doesn't. You don't notice it's a cliffhanger until you're reading the ending over and over... like I did. Then when it hits, all the world stops until you take it in. Well, something like that anyways.

However, this book was innappropriate. Just make sure you don't read it if you can't stand it. Also, Rose swears a lot so if you're not okay with swearing, do not read this book at all. If you do, you will be too hooked to care.
But not that it matters, right?

The Summoning, by Kelley Armstrong

I'm disappointed. I started this book thinking it would be my next favorite book. I thought it would be the bomb. But it really wasn't. At least not for me. It wasn't hard to get through, but it just didn't click. It was just okay, but that's not enough. So 3 out of 5 stars.

The Summoning by Kelley Armstrong
Published 7.1.2008
3 out of 5 stars
Summary from Goodreads: After years of frequent moves following her mother’s death, Chloe Saunders’s life is finally settling down. She is attending art school, pursuing her dreams of becoming a director, making friends, meeting boys. Her biggest concern is that she’s not developing as fast as her friends are. But when puberty does hit, it brings more than hormone surges. Chloe starts seeing ghosts–everywhere, demanding her attention. After she suffers a breakdown, her devoted aunt Lauren gets her into a highly recommended group home.

At first, Lyle House seems a pretty okay place, except for Chloe’s small problem of fearing she might be facing a lifetime of mental illness. But as she gradually gets to know the other kids at the home–charming Simon and his ominous, unsmiling brother Derek, obnoxious Tori, and Rae, who has a “thing” for fire–Chloe begins to realize that there is something that binds them all together, and it isn’t your usual “problem kid” behaviour. And together they discover that Lyle House is not your usual group home either…

Once upon a time, there was a book called The Summoning. And it was disappointing. Anyways, it had a very boring plot. Well boring compared to other YA plots. There weren't many surprises, barely any twists and about zero turns. If there were, they weren't that significant. I wasn't immersed in the plot. If anything, this plot isn't the strongest part of the story. Oh well. It had so much potential, but it was ruined.

Chloe. She was not exactly my favorite protagonist. She was just okay. Not hated by me, but not loved. It's like she wasn't there. Her presence was not noticed, even though she was the main character. It's kind of sad for me. How could I not even have an opinion on the main character?
She's short. That's kind of a trend going on in YA books, and I don't mind reading about short people. Well, that's because I am one. Anyways, that made her more relatable. If I can't say what I think about Chloe as a character, at least I can say she's relatable!

What surprised me was the lack of romance. This book is shelfed with romance 84 times. But I really didn't find any...
This book was hinting at possible relationships, but I really couldn't find any real ones. I really wanted a guy to add to the crush list, but I guess I have to wait for another book. Basically, this book needed more love because love makes the world go round!
Okay...

However, the Lyle House didn't seem normal... it seemed like it was in a different world, a parallel universe far, far away. I didn't feel like the Lyle House could actually exist. It's not believable or probable at all. It was a kind of nice concept gone wrong. No offense intended, of course. This is just how I feel about The Summoning.

I didn't dread this book but I didn't hate it either. So I'm neutral. I'm probably not going to pick up the sequel, but maybe. Once upon a time I thought The Summoning might be good, and in the same world it was. I might not find that world, but I know it's not this one.

Unearthly by Cynthia Hand

When I first saw this book, I was reluctant to read it. So I waited about two months before actually getting the book. Then I waited another week or so to actually start reading it. And that was a huge mistake!!!!! This book is one of those books that you have to read now! You can't wait for it, you absolutely must grab it. In other words, 5 out of 5 stars.

Unearthly by Cynthia Hand
Published 01/4/11
5 out of 5 unearthly stars!
Summary from Goodreads: In the beginning, there's a boy standing in the trees . . . .

Clara Gardner has recently learned that she's part angel. Having angel blood run through her veins not only makes her smarter, stronger, and faster than humans (a word, she realizes, that no longer applies to her), but it means she has a purpose, something she was put on this earth to do. Figuring out what that is, though, isn't easy.

Her visions of a raging forest fire and an alluring stranger lead her to a new school in a new town. When she meets Christian, who turns out to be the boy of her dreams (literally), everything seems to fall into place—and out of place at the same time. Because there's another guy, Tucker, who appeals to Clara's less angelic side.

As Clara tries to find her way in a world she no longer understands, she encounters unseen dangers and choices she never thought she'd have to make—between honesty and deceit, love and duty, good and evil. When the fire from her vision finally ignites, will Clara be ready to face her destiny?

Unearthly is a moving tale of love and fate, and the struggle between following the rules and following your heart.

There's something about this book that is unbelievably unique. Maybe it's the part about angels, the fact of knowing your destiny, or already knowing you're an angel. Maybe it's Clara, who is pretty special... literally. Or maybe it's just me. Still, you can't deny that this book is different. In a good way.

This love triangle is utterly amazing! I absolutely loved it! You have Tucker, your charming bad boy, and Christian, who is my favorite. This triangle is epic! I felt myself torn between both of them. Whenever Christian was there, I was Team Christian! When Tucker was there, I loved Tucker. But still, I just liked (loved) Christian a little more, so I am officially Team Christian!!!!!
And Christian has a secret that you find out... which is so surprising!!! It's absolutely mindblowing! No kidding!

There's also this friend triangle... kind of. Clara has these two totally awesome friends that are really opposites. Wendy and Angela. Angela and Wendy. I'll just say one thing: I like them both. Even if Wendy likes playing matchmaker and Angela too. Who cares if I can't like both of them? They're both great friends. Can you guys be my friends? I'll give you cookies! Anyways...

This plot is worth gushing about for eternity! You have tons of side plots, tons of surprises and tons of epic events! Still not convinced? Let's just say I started gasping and had to stop reading for a bit... really! For real! I was so surprised that I had to give myself a time out. Twists, turns, and loops. I loved it!!!! So, so awesome! If anything, this plot is better than almost any other plot ever. Such astounding events... amazing revelations... just read this book!!!!!!!!

Then there's this whole thing called voice. I loved this style of writing. So exquisite. I almost wanted to stop reading so I could save it for later. But I couldn't. It was too good to put down. It was so good!!!!!!! Wow... I'm still ranting!

Then there's Clara. She's pretty relatable, considering she's a quarter angel and has wings. She's smart, clever, nice, and pretty awesome... except one thing. She loves Tucker! Notice I wrote love. Anyways, other than that she is an awesome protagonist. Even I can't do better. That's saying a lot about her...
I'm glad she's a blonde... but not exactly anymore. But that really doesn't exactly have to do with anything...

Just read this book!Fall in love with Christian! Or Tucker! Just read it! And start begging for the sequel...

Today I am reading Unearthly, by Cynthia Hand. And so far it is... unearthly! Pun intended. It's so good it's not meant to be on earth. Really!

Summary from Goodreads:In the beginning, there's a boy standing in the trees . . . .

Doesn't that sound interesting? It is! And it really is a moving tale. Beautifully written, witty, funny and just pure bliss. And no, it's not chocolate. It's even better! I love this book!!!!! Now I just need to finish it...

Wings by Aprilynne Pike

Hahahahaha. Hehehehe. Laugh disguised as a cough. Uncontrollable giggling. Honking laughs. Airy laughs. Wicked cackles. Honking chuckles. I don't care how you word it, but basically, I was dying from laughter with this book. Why? It's not really funny, but it's CHEESY.
So... I'm kind of unsure, but 2.75 out of 5 stars.

Wings, by Aprilynne Pike
Unfortunately out
2.75 out of 5 stars
Summary from Goodreads:Laurel was mesmerized, staring at the pale things with wide eyes. They were terrifyingly beautiful—too beautiful for words.

Laurel turned to the mirror again, her eyes on the hovering petals that floated beside her head. They looked almost like wings.

In this extraordinary tale of magic and intrigue, romance and danger, everything you thought you knew about faeries will be changed forever.

Yes everything I thought I knew about faeries changed forever. Now I'm haunted by people who can't eat meat or eggs that have a flower on their back. Oh, and did I mention that they don't have a heartbeat? Or that they breathe carbon dioxide? And not to mention that a faerie's skin color is determined by what they eat? Apparently not. I can take cheesiness to a point. But this book has crossed that line. To... eternally cheesy and immature!

Gag me and bind me to death. This plot was utterly disgusting. No offense or anything, but it was just boring. No huge curveballs or twists. Nothing that great. It's pretty guessable and totally not fun. I mean, what is wrong with this plot? A YA book or any other book is supposed to have a twisted, surprising plot. But this book has failed the plot test. And any other test plot-related.

Agh! And Lauren, what a weak main character. She's clingy and boring and just, ugh, such a Bella Swan! She reeks of weakness, which is probably the worst thing to reek of. I really don't like how she questions past decisions and just is unsure of everything. Go to a counselor and get your self-esteem checked! What are you waiting for?

This love triangle is not a love triangle. It's choosing the best out of two boys who are both annoying. So Lauren, just hurry up and ditch them both! They're not worth it! Oh, and I give you full permission to, as long as you ditch them both NOW!!!!

Oh, and I mean it too.

Waiting on Wednesday #2

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme held by Jill at Breaking the Spine.
And today I am waiting for... Clockwork Prince! Agh, Cassandra Clare, do you have to write the absolute best YA fiction ever? Why do you have to torture me like that? Can't you please not write anymore? I won't be tempted by your books then, I promise!
Or not...

Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare
Publishing 12/6/11
Summary from Goodreads: In the magical underworld of Victorian London, Tessa Gray has at last found safety with the Shadowhunters. But that safety proves fleeting when rogue forces in the Clave plot to see her protector, Charlotte, replaced as head of the Institute. If Charlotte loses her position, Tessa will be out on the street and easy prey for the mysterious Magister, who wants to use Tessa's powers for his own dark ends.
With the help of the handsome, self-destructive Will and the fiercely devoted Jem, Tessa discovers that the Magister's war on the Shadowhunters is deeply personal. He blames them for a long-ago tragedy that shattered his life. To unravel the secrets of the past, the trio journeys from mist-shrouded Yorkshire to a manor house that holds untold horrors, from the slums of London to an enchanted ballroom where Tessa discovers that the truth of her parentage is more sinister than she had imagined. When they encounter a clockwork demon bearing a warning for Will, they realize that the Magister himself knows their every move and that one of their own has betrayed them.

Tessa finds her heart drawn more and more to Jem, though her longing for Will, despite his dark moods, continues to unsettle her. But something is changing in Will; the wall he has built around himself is crumbling. Could finding the Magister free Will from his secrets and give Tessa the answers about who she is and what she was born to do?

As their dangerous search for the Magister and the truth leads the friends into peril, Tessa learns that when love and lies are mixed, they can corrupt even the purest heart.

Doesn't this sound so good? Note: this is a sequel, so now you're warned!

Haunting Violet, by Alyxandra Harvey

“Tucking my nose into a book makes me completely oblivious to my surroundings. I would have made a terrible spy in the army--the first person to hand me a novel would have been able to shoot my head clean off without me noticing.” -Haunting Violet
Look at that quote!!! It's about reading! And books! And that means only one thing: it's awesome!!!!! I love books with characters that love books! In other words, 5 out of 5 stars! ...that aren't haunted...
That was cheesy.

Haunting Violet, by Alyxandra Harvey
Published June 21, 2011
5 out of 5 stars!
Summary from Goodreads:Violet Willoughby doesn't believe in ghosts. But they believe in her. After spending years participating in her mother's elaborate ruse as a fraudulent medium, Violet is about as skeptical as they come in all matters supernatural. Now that she is being visited by a very persistent ghost, one who suffered a violent death, Violet can no longer ignore her unique ability. She must figure out what this ghost is trying to communicate, and quickly because the killer is still on the loose.

Afraid of ruining her chance to escape her mother's scheming through an advantageous marriage, Violet must keep her ability secret. The only person who can help her is Colin, a friend she's known since childhood, and whom she has grown to love. He understands the true Violet, but helping her on this path means they might never be together. Can Violet find a way to help this ghost without ruining her own chance at a future free of lies?

Guess what? This book is a murder mystery! And a paranormal book! And a half, but not really, romance! I'm for it all, but really only for the murder! Still, this book has it all! And that's a good thing! Yay! Go a variety of intriging things!
Not only that, but this murder mystery is truly a mystery! The killer is the last person you'd suspect. I suspected a ton of people, but the killer was the one I didn't even think about! Let's just say this murderer is a very good murderer... is he? Or she?
Anyways, besides that, the plot is still astounding! It's actually kind of ironic if you think about it. In other words, Valerie loves this plot!!!!!!!!!! And you should love it too! Absolutely amazing!

Oh, the time! It's in 1872! In England! Victorian era, delicious description, nice narrating, totally an old-fashioned novel! That appeals to modern readers! Anyways... it's a beautiful setting totally worth raving about! I absolutely devoured this setting. And the story. Anyways, where else can you go besides London?

And ghosts... wow... I was not expecting that! Ghosts are usually the forbidden species, ignored by time and rain. But not anymore! In this book, ghosts are... pretty interesting, to say it at the least. And pretty awesome! So unique and captivating! There, I used big words!

And I liked Violet a lot. She was smart and clever and basically okay with me! Well more than okay, but still! She's strong, which I admire, a bookworm, which makes me even more okay with her, and a great friend, which is a must on my list. Basically, a perfect protagonist and a perfect main character to write about. Yay, and her name is Violet because she has violet eyes! I've always wanted violet eyes!

And then there's a guy. Colin, to be exact. He's your average bad boy. Yup, just average. But good-looking. Still, I like him a lot! Lots of good quotes. Lots of swoon-worthy moments. Lots and lots of admiration... from a certain Valerie. Anyways, Colin is pretty awesome for a Victorian dude. That's all you really need to know...

And all you'll ever get from me.

Music Monday!

I happen to like songs no one's heard of... or songs no one wants to hear of. And these are just two that I really, really love, but only I seem to know. Yes, Lindsay Lohan. I just really love her voice!

So, Lindsay's not too bad, is she?

Agh! I want your voice, Nikki!!! So, can you hand it over?

So, what do you think?

Die for Me, by Amy Plum

There are books where you laugh and cry, but then there are books where you LAUGH and CRY. There are books where you fall in love with a guy, but then there are books where you FALL IN LOVE WITH A GUY. There are books where you are really liking the book, but then there are books you LOVE. This falls in the latter for all 3. 5 out of 5 stars!

Die for Me, by Amy Plum
5 out of 5 stars
It's out, so you know what that means...
Summary from Goodreads: In the City of Lights, two star-crossed lovers battle a fate that is destined to tear them apart again and again for eternity.

When Kate Mercier's parents die in a tragic car accident, she leaves her life--and memories--behind to live with her grandparents in Paris. For Kate, the only way to survive her pain is escaping into the world of books and Parisian art. Until she meets Vincent.

Mysterious, charming, and devastatingly handsome, Vincent threatens to melt the ice around Kate's guarded heart with just his smile. As she begins to fall in love with Vincent, Kate discovers that he's a revenant--an undead being whose fate forces him to sacrifice himself over and over again to save the lives of others. Vincent and those like him are bound in a centuries-old war against a group of evil revenants who exist only to murder and betray. Kate soon realizes that if she follows her heart, she may never be safe again.

In this incandescent debut, newcomer Amy Plum has created a powerful paranormal mythology with immortal revenants. The Paris setting comes enchantingly alive as a relentless struggle between good and evil takes place in its streets. Rich with romance, atmosphere, and thrills, Die for Me will leave readers breathlessly awaiting its sequel.

Where do I begin? Well since I like him, let's say Vincent!!! I love him soooooo much!!! Swoon, swoon, swoon!!! He is so charming, good-looking, and all together the perfect crush! Love you, Vincent! Anyways, he has black hair, blue eyes, and darkish tannish skin. Doesn't he seem so awesome? Anyways, he really is very good to Kate. Total crush-worthy, which is why I added him to my list. Really, I don't to say any more...
Any crush I have is rare, so the guys are always pretty awesome...

Okay, I love this plot!!!!!!! I love how Amy Plum took something like zombies and made them so much more elegant. I mean revenants, doesn't that sound so nice? It seems so French, and who doesn't like anything French-sounding? It screams, "we are so sophisticated!" Not to mention it's totally unique... the revenants, not the French...
Anyways, lets just say there were a ton of twists. And turns. And spiraling loops. But even that's not enough to tell you. I was so surprised and so flabbergasted that I literally had to put the book down in order to start gasping and totally let it sink in. That is a sign of a great book!

The setting. Well, who doesn't love Paris? There's good food, good scenery... and good romance? Well at least in Kate's story. Anyways, now I want to visit Paris!!! The setting is amazing. You have water, the Eiffel Tower, and huge houses. There's so much detail and everything, with just makes me want to go to Paris even more! The Louvre, here I come!

And then there's this whole thing with Kate. She is an awesome heroine!!! She smart, and she actually thinks before she acts! That's the first time I've seen that in a protagonist! Not only that, but she's clever and totally awesome! Totally unique girl, in a good way!!!! Kate, can I be your friend? :)

I love Amy Plum's writing style!!! It had me flipping through the pages during the night, day and during school. Usually I don't read like crazy at school, but I had to with this book! It's written so well!!! I absolutely loved it! She has this fantastic style that had me begging for more!!!!!!!!! I hope she writes more books! I need to read more of her work! Now!

Then there's the ending. Wow... I love this ending! It seems like there are more books in this series, but this ending was so perfect! It literally had me sitting there with a silly smile on my face, but I didn't care! I am a sucker for nice endings! Absolutely best. Ending. Ever!!!! Love, love love!!!!!!

Oh, and the cover! It screams, "Buy me!" So that's what you have to do! Such a beautiful awesome cover! Such a dress! Look at the design. You absolutely MUST read this book. That is all I can say... or write. The rest is up to you.

  • Grab what you're currently reading
  • Go to your blog (if you have one)
  • Write what you think about it!(the book, not the blog) on your blog
  • Be sure to include the title and author.

Today I am reading: Shift, by Jeri Smith-Ready

And so far it is pretty awesome!!!!!!!! But there's just one problem: I can't choose between Logan and Zachary. They're both so amazing!!!! I mean we have a musician who can sing and a Scottish who can roll his r's. I really can't choose. Absolutely love, love, love them both!

And then we have Aura. We have this really interesting problem that just might be a gift. Her power is so amazing!!! Love it! But we don't know the story behind it... which is what we're learning in this book. So amazing!!!!
And really kinda making me what to rip through the book to get the answers.

But anyways...
IT'S STILL A BOOK WORTH READING!

Gone, by Lisa McMann

I'm disappointed. No, I'm not. Instead, I am fuming. I am mad. I am furious, angry, worked up and just ready to say one word: why? Why, Lisa McMann, did you have to make the final book like this? I am speechless. And that's NOT a good thing. This book, I hate to say, deserves a 2.5 out of 5 stars.

Gone, by Lisa McMann
It's out.
2.5 out of 5 stars.
Summary from Goodreads: Janie thought she knew what her future held. And she thought she’d made her peace with it. But she can’t handle dragging Cabel down with her.

She knows he will stay with her, despite what she sees in his dreams. He’s amazing. And she’s a train wreck. Janie sees only one way to give him the life he deserves: She has to disappear. And it’s going to kill them both.

Then a stranger enters her life — and everything unravels. The future Janie once faced now has an ominous twist, and her choices are more dire than she’d ever thought possible. She alone must decide between the lesser of two evils. And time is running out. . . .

I am so infuriated. First off, this book was underwhelming. And underwhelming=short. Short= a very mad Valerie. But there were no surprises!!!!!!!!!! Okay, fine, there were, but they weren't good. NO, not at all. I mean, if anything, they were cheesy. Very cheesy. I am going to put it in my sandwiches.

Then, Janie and Cabel. Cabel and Janie. I am mad at them. I mean, look at their relationship. If you dissect it, you can tell that something is wrong. That problem starts and ends in the third book. Such a terrible relationship. They're not meant to be. Still, that isn't as bad as the next thing.

Janie, what is wrong with you? I mean really, don't you know the right choice to make? It's obvious!!!!!! You were a really selfish person, and you still are, you know that???? And that choice was really dumb. Sure, you might have changed your mind, but still, you should have known better!! I am not happy with you. Grrrr... shows off some plastic fangs...

And whoa, I hate this ending. I didn't even know it was an ending. I had to flip to the next page and just scream because it was over. A very bad ending. Just disgusting. Ugh... I am not pleased. Just kill me already!!!!!!!

This book was also inappropriate. Like really, a Judy Blume Forever reference? Really? I hated how inappropriate it was. Absolutely grossed out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please don't read this book. It's not worth the buy.

Divergent, by Veronica Roth

Let me make something clear. I do NOT read sci-fi. Or dystopian. Got it? So I have no idea why I picked up Divergent (though I might have been convinced by the raving reviews...) and... I LOVED it! So much I've decided to add Four to my crush list! So much I've decided sci-fi (or dystopian) is actually okay! And for me, that's saying a lot...
So this can only mean one thing: 5 stars!!!!!! Out of five stars!!!!!!!

Divergent by Veronica Roth
It's out, so you absolutely MUST read it!
5 out of 5 stars!
Summary from Goodreads: Beatrice "Tris" Prior has reached the fateful age of sixteen, the stage at which teenagers in Veronica Roth's dystopian Chicago must select which of five factions to join for life. Each faction represents a virtue: Candor, Abnegation, Dauntless, Amity, and Erudite. To the surprise of herself and her selfless Abnegation family, she chooses Dauntless, the path of courage. Her choice exposes her to the demanding, violent initiation rites of this group, but it also threatens to expose a personal secret that could place in mortal danger. Veronica Roth's young adult Divergent trilogy launches with a captivating adventure about love and loyalty playing out under most extreme circumstances.

Where do I begin? Or rather, who do I begin with? These characters were absolutely awesome!! They were all so different, so unique, so well-constructed... and I loved it! Tris is different: you find something out about her in the beginning. That makes her choice very, very hard. When she finally is Dauntless, let's just say that she's strong. Very. And I like my protagonists that way! Best. Female. Protagonist. Ever! She's witty, stubborn and not letting anyone get away with bothering her.

And Four! I love you! I love you! Get the picture? He is so awesome! I absolutely love him! He's your mysterious broken boy, with a twist. The thing is, not only is he broken, but... he's serious. Ish. That's why the romance is slow, just the way I like it. The thing is, he protects Tris. Even if it ends up backfiring. So in other words, I basically read the story for Four! Well, maybe not...

Wow, Christina, you are such a bubbly character! You're the bestest (who cares if it's not a word) friend ever! Can you be my friend? I'll give you cookies!
Al, Peter, Will, and everyone else, you guys all are great characters, even if some of you are evil and everything, but hey, someone has to be the evil one. As long as it's not me...

This plot was awesome! So many twists! So many surprises! So worth ranting about! But... I'm not going to! Let's just say if I do, everything will be revealed! And I don't want that to happen! So all you need to know is that you will be gasping (for real!), smiling like a maniac (just like me!) and just going crazy! And that might not be a good thing...

Love this book!! It was written so well!!! And you need to read it!! That's all you need to do: read this book!!!! Best dystopian ever! And I mean it!

Oh, and you can view the trailer here. Cause it's a pretty awesome trailer!

And the sequel is coming out in 2012! Just read this book! Now!
I mean it!

Beautiful Creatures, by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl

In shock. Paralyzed. Mindblown. Crazed. Unbelieving. Awed. Surprised. Overwhelmed. Stunned. Overwhelmed. Flabbergasted. Astounded. Stupefied. Dumbfounded.
You can use whatever you want, but this book is just plain awesome!!!!!!!!! In other words, 5 out of 5 beautiful stars!!!!!!!

Beautiful Creatures, by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl
It's out. It's out. It's out!
5 out of 5 stars!
Summary from Goodreads:Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she's struggling to conceal her power, and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.

Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town's oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.

In a town with no surprises, one secret could change everything.

I don't know where to begin. So many things I want to say, yet I don't know how to put it. So many things I love, yet I can't prioritize. So many layers in this book, it makes me want them all. So many pages that I want to reread all at once.

Guess what? It's in a guy's POV!!!!!! It's in Ethan's! And that's just one more awesome thing to add to my bulging list! It's so cool how it's in a Mortal's POV. And it's even cooler cause it's in Ethan's! He is such a great protagonist. And such an awesome main character...

Of course there's Lena too! And no, I wasn't going to forget you...
Well, I wasn't planning to...
She is such a mindblowing girl! Stuborn, super, spellcasting... literally. And did I mention that she writes poetry? I just love what she writes! The pieces that Ethan mentions are so mysterious, so mystifying and altogether so cool! Absolutely love, love, love! Her or the poetry? How bout both?
I'm serious, she totally tops my list of female paranormals that could be amazing mortals.

The plot. Deserves to be ranted over. No, it's not bad...
It's the fact that it is so awesome! I mean it! You were solving more than two mysteries at once. There are about 5 main problems, and a million smaller ones! I absolutely love this wonderful storyline with countless twists and turns! I wish I could come up with such a plot! Need to rant even more!!! Let's just say once you start to get it, the authors just come up with another reason to make you doubt if you got it or not.
Not only that, it's a love story, paranormal epic, and just a totally awesome novel!!!!! With a plot! A great one! It's the best plot ever!

Not only that, it was such a gripping story, the way it's written. It made me sad, happy and... bipolar? Yes it did!!!! That's how great this book is. Just absolutely worth swooning over.

You must read this book! You must read this book! Now! It's a beautiful love story! Really! Just read this book! Please?

Fade, by Lisa McMann

Okay, people, I have a new favorite author. And by the title of this post, you can probably tell that it is the one, the only... (wait for it!) ...
Lisa McMann!!!!!!!!! Come up and claim your prize!! You can a choice from a praise, or a compliment. Take your pick!
Anyways, this is rated... 5 out of 5 stars!!!!

Fade, by Lisa McMann
5 out of 5 not fading stars
It's out! So celebrate!
Summary from Goodreads: SOME NIGHTMARES NEVER END.

For Janie and Cabel, real life is getting tougher than the dreams. They're just trying to carve out a little (secret) time together, but no such luck.

Disturbing things are happening at Fieldridge High, yet nobody's talking. When Janie taps into a classmate's violent nightmares, the case finally breaks open -- but nothing goes as planned. Not even close. Janie's in way over her head, and Cabe's shocking behavior has grave consequences for them both.

Worse yet, Janie learns the truth about herself and her ability -- and it's bleak. Seriously, brutally bleak. Not only is her fate as a dream catcher sealed, but what's to come is way darker than she'd feared....

Okay... if you haven't read Wake, you should not be reading this review. Unless you're okay with it, and you might see some spoilers... but anyways, are you still reading? Yes? Okay, whatever.

I love, absolutely love the writing style!!! Lisa McMann has this clear, concise style that made me go like this: NO fair!! I want to write like that!!!!!
And... it's just so unique, the way it's written. So refreshing!! I totally, totally loved it!! So, so awesomely nice!!!!!!!!!! :)

I just adore the characters!!!!!!!! Janie has this incredible ability... which has changed her for the better... I hope. She is the main protagonist... and I love her story!!!!!! And her boyfriend... but that's another story...
Cabel is awesome!! He's broken, so what's not to love? And he's good, so he's okay with me. Actually, he's more than okay, but just pretend you don't know that. In this book, Cabel has some problems that he has to overcome, but once he does that, I was like, "Yay Cabel and Janie!! You guys are an amazing couple!!" Swoon, swoon, swoon!

Oh... this plot. Wow... I was surprised, at that's just the mildest word I can use. I was actually more
  • Mindblown
  • Blown
  • And Blown away...
... by the events!!!!!! I think this plot is awesome! I mean, what happens just starts to make you gasp! For real! I actually gasped out loud!!!! That's how great this plot is...

However, this book is for older readers. I mean, it's supposed to be. So please, judge carefully, and make a proper decision. It's a little, a lot, innappropriate so make a good decision! Nothing graphic though.

Anyways read this book!!!! Well, after you've read Wake. Then fall in love with the book, the trilogy and whatever else Lisa McMann related!!!

I'm waiting...
